Join First Presbyterian Church and the greater Greensboro Faith community in the 17th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Virtual Interfaith Worship Service, this Monday, January 17 at noon. The theme is Shifting Priorities to Create the Beloved Community.

Below are excerpts from both the Call to Worship and Closing Charge of the Monday Worship Service! Come and be inspired to work together to create the beloved community here in Greensboro.

Leader: We come as the beloved community to thank God for those who make justice a reality and truth a sword that heals the heart and cures the conscious of those who cannot see the unity in our humanity.

People: We come as a diverse people of faith from various traditions, creeds and cultures, united in our stance to defeat racism, bigotry, prejudice, and all things that divide us.

Leader: We come thanking God for the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and all those who work to bring good news to the poor, liberty to the oppressed and recovery of sight to the blind.

People: We come to worship God, believing that “together we win with love for humanity.”

Leader: Let us worship God, our Liberator and Leader!

All: Let us commit to love justice, seek mercy, and walk humbly with our God. Amen!

Charge:

Jesus said, “You ought always to pray and not to faint.” Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger women and men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers, but for power equal to your tasks. Then, the doing of your work will be no miracle—you will be the miracle. Each day you will wonder at yourself and the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God. Go forth from this place, celebrating, remembering and acting on the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King — a dream of where love, justice and peace is a reality for all humankind.
