We are people of the Book, and in times of danger and worry we turn to the Good Book for strength, courage, comfort, and wisdom.

The one full chapter from the Bible many of us know by heart is the 23rd Psalm.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.

He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Join with me in sitting quietly once in the morning and once in the evening to recite slowly Psalm 23.  It will restore our souls.

Here is my attempt at a more modern translation (and interpretation) with our current situation in mind.

The Lord is my leader.  The Almighty will never disappoint me.

The Lord brings me to beautiful places where I sit quietly beside still waters.

I feel my soul being restored.

I feel like I am going in the right direction.

Even though I am surrounded by sickness and death,

I still feel Your strong presence within me.

I still feel Your guidance and comfort.

Yes, I am surrounded by an Enemy named Corona,

But You are still taking care of me, and I feel grateful and blessed.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me until this is over,

And we will return to our sanctuary rejoicing.
