Transition Team names interim pastor
It is with great pleasure that the Transition Team announces the selection of Dr. Daniel W. Massie of Charleston, S.C., as FPC’s interim pastor. Session approved the hiring of Dr. Massie at its Sept. 23 meeting.
Danny Massie is a native of Mississippi and a graduate of Belhaven University. He obtained his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Union Theological Seminary (now Union Presbyterian Seminary) and pursued additional study in Edinburgh, Scotland. He served churches in Norfolk, Va.; Vicksburg, Miss.; and Kingsport, Tenn., before accepting the senior pastorate at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston, S.C., a position he held from 1997 until his retirement in 2015.
Since that time he has served as interim pastor at First Presbyterian in Orangeburg, S.C., and Mount Pleasant Presbyterian in Mount Pleasant, S.C. In his spare time he enjoys reading, golf, collecting epitaphs, college sports, and travel. Danny is married to Tita Morrison Massie, his wife of 50 years with whom he shares four children and six grandchildren. The couple recently returned from an Alaskan cruise in celebration of their golden anniversary.
Danny will begin work at FPC the week after Thanksgiving, and will preach his first sermon the following Sunday, Dec. 2, the first Sunday in Advent. We look forward to welcoming Danny and Tita to FPC as we enter the next phase in our search for a new senior pastor.
