Virginia in May
The Paisley Travelers will head to Virginia May 2-3 to tour Montpelier and Monticello, homes of Presidents James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. A Signature Tour of Montpelier will touch on Madison’s role as Father of the Constitution; slavery, his worst regret; and his popular wife, Dolley Madison, who was born in Guilford County. The visit concludes with a boxed lunch on the grounds and free time to explore outbuildings and cellar exhibits, archaeological projects, the Madison family cemetery and slave cemetery, a garden that will be in full bloom, and the gift shop.
We will travel to Charlottesville to stay at the English Inn, with dinner at The Sedona Tap House and a complimentary breakfast the next morning. After breakfast we head to Monticello, home of Jefferson -- philosopher, scientist, historian, and author of the Declaration of Independence.
Our visit includes a guided tour with abundant time to explore the grounds, gardens, exhibits & gift shop. We will stop at the historic Michie Tavern for an 18th century buffet, and visit the General Store, Armory & Artifacts, and Metal Smith Shops housed in period structures.
RSVP deadline: Feb. 25. Cost includes travel, hotel, admissions, breakfast & lunches. Based on occupancy: Single, $459; double, $375; triple, $359; quad, $345.
