It did not take long for volunteers to notice that we have some very talented artists in residence at this year’s winter emergency shelter. Learn more.

The members of our congregation and staff have made a tremendous impact on the lives of our Winter Emergency Shelter residents for the past two years.
Our leadership team and shelter residents thank everyone for the care and prayers that you so generously extended. What we have done goes beyond sheltering for just a season.
Here is an excerpt from a letter received recently from one of last year’s shelter residents who has successfully completed an extensive recovery program and is looking forward to living with God by his side.
Hi Jill,
I believe that when I stayed in the shelter last winter that was the beginning of getting started over with my life. Even though I relapsed last summer, it was that experience that made me realize how bad I needed to seek help with my problem. It was also the time I was reintroduced to God. I had run from Him for many years so as not to have to look at myself or look at the pain and destruction that I was causing in others lives. It has been a journey that I am glad I have been taking. I truly believe that He used you and all the other volunteers at First Pres to open my eyes and my heart to the true meaning of Christianity. I have no idea what is in store for me as I walk this new way of life, but I trust fully that God can and will open doors for me. For the first time in many years, I will find a fulfilling happiness in this life, and hope that I will be an example for others.
Please tell everyone at the shelter that I pray for them and only wish the best for them. If anyone there is struggling as I was, feel free to give them my e-mail as I would love the opportunity to share what my life was like and what it is like today. I truly feel today that my life is a living testimony of what the power of prayer and communion with God can do. You were truly an inspiration to me.
God bless you and yours,
Robert
