Peggy Matthews, parish chaplain
and director of pastoral care
My role at First Presbyterian Church is to provide leadership to the staff and congregation in the area of congregational care and nurture. Our staff of six provides pastoral care through the congregational nurse ministry, pastoral visits to home, retirement communities, skilled care facilities, and hospitals. I am the staff liaison to the Pastoral Care Committee which oversees the comprehensive ministry of pastoral care at FPC.

Peggy graduated from Salem College and received her master's degree in social work from UNC-Chapel Hill and her master's of divinity from Wake Forest University Divinity School. She was chaplain resident for two years in the Moses Cone Health System before coming to FPC. Contact.
Rhonda Davis, chaplain associate
for pastoral care
Rhonda Davis has a Masters of Divinity from Duke and has trained as a Chaplain at UNC Hospitals in their Clinical Pastoral Education program. Rhonda has worked as a hospital and nursing home Chaplain, Associate Pastor, and Pastor and she is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ, a covenant faith community with the Presbyterian denomination. Rhonda specializes in caring for those who experience major life transitions and crises as well as developing long-term relationships with individuals and families who are home-bound or live in care facilities. Rhonda spends time journeying with families through their grief process when loved one’s die and helping them created meaningful rituals and memorial services. Rhonda is currently working part-time at First Presbyterian and getting her Masters in Clinical Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. She is training to do experiential therapy with children and families and spends part of her weeks as an intern at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.

David Partington, parish associate
for pastoral care
David is our Parish Associate for Pastoral Care. His principal ministry is visitation (bringing church to those who are unable to come to worship) in homes, hospitals, and care centers. David is also available in times of bereavement to walk with families in planning a Service of Witness to the Resurrection in memory of a loved one. David has been trained in Spiritual Direction and is available to walk with those who need someone to journey with them as they deepen their life in God.

Maggie Turner, congregational nurse
As congregational nurse, Maggie Turner organizes efforts to education congregational members of all ages. She also helps connect church members with health resources in our church and community.

Susan Matthews, pastoral care coordinator
Susan helps guide people who need pastoral care to the right person on FPC’s Pastoral Care Staff. She works closely with families who have experienced a death in the family and assists them in all of the different ways that the church can support them and walk with them. Russell Sherrill, church visitor
In terms of his service to the congregation as a part of our Pastoral Care Ministry at First Presbyterian Church Russell is our most senior member. For many years he has been the face of the congregation to many people recuperating from an illness.
