Every crisis is a spiritual emergency. One of our tasks as a pastor is to present images of hope and new life to people for whom, at the moment, the future appears bleak and uncertain. Often a pastor who is involved with an individual or family may see the presence of God in the one who is ill and experience God guiding her/him to respond in a healing way.
We try to notice our own responses to what is happening to someone emotionally and to be aware of the contrasts between healing and pain. We don’t fix anything. We listen to one’s joys, anger, hopes and fears as we remain open to God’s companionship and power of healing touch to those who are vulnerable.
