Sponsor a child at Espwa

It's time to renew our support for Espwa, the children's home in Haiti, by sponsoring a child. This year we are asking for a donation of $250 a year to cover some basic needs for one child. Learn more.

Let's help Aycock Middle School students succeed in the coming school year

Do you remember someone in your life that made a positive impact on you when you were in middle school? The Guilford County school system has requested help from the faith community to intentionally engage with our schools by demonstrating leadership skills and improve literacy.

Now is the time to rally as a congregation and positively influence students at our neighboring Aycock Middle School as we take part in the Guilford County Faith Partner Initiative.

Many positive changes have taken place at Aycock over the last few years, and our help is needed to build that momentum. Here are some of the ways we can help these students who are in need of positive role models as well as academic and extracurricular support:

Become a tutor

Daytime and after-school reading tutors are needed for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students and those who are behind grade level. Contact: Susan Villarrubia, Aycock Middle School Curriculum Facilitator, 370-8110, to sign up.

Outreach ministries at First Presbyterian

Neil DunnavantThe key to meaningful, fun and effective outreach is combining what needs to be done with people who really want to do it. With that in mind, we strive to provide a diversity of opportunities. If you don’t see anything here that interests you, then please contact me and let me know what you are interested in or what you think you might be interested in. Outside of what we have listed at right, there is a whole world of needs looking for people drawn to them.

Some of our needs are one-time -- such as showing up before Thanksgiving to package turkey dinners. But if you are looking for an ongoing outreach service, my advice is don’t be afraid to try something new, and if you don’t like it, keep looking until you find something that you really like. And please don’t ever feel guilty for not liking an outreach project.

But as they say, you never know for sure unless you try it first.
