Oct. 28, 2009 — Nobel Prize

Well, a lot of people were surprised when the news came from Stockholm that President Barack Obama had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The full list of nominees is kept confidential for 50 years, but we do know that more than 200 names were submitted this year. The prize committee said part of the reason it chose President Obama was to support and encourage his efforts to engage with other nations.

Which makes me wonder: What if, today, each of us received a phone call with this message: “You are doing good work in the world. Keep it up. We are with you.”?

Well, there is a scripture reporting the words of Jesus. It says: “Behold, I am with you always.” Feels like a phone call to me.

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
