Oct. 27, 2009 — Winners and losers
When the Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Redskins on Sept. 29, they were jubilant. The Lions had ended a 19-game losing streak.
Coach Jim Schwartz said, “I’m trying to figure out why we’re so happy when we expect to win.” The team laughed.
Well, it’s hard to expect a win when you’ve lost over and over again. And for many of us, the past year has felt like a series of losses – of jobs and homes and savings.
We all want to be winners, but sometimes it’s hard to feel that way when we seem to be on a losing streak.
Faith teaches us to persevere with hope. And how we define winning and losing is ultimately how we see the world through the lens of faith.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
