Nov. 26, 2009 — Thanksgiving

In 1621, Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and invited neighboring Native Americans to share the celebration.

The Plymouth colonists owed much to Squanto and the other Native Americans, and without their help, the pilgrims may not have survived in their harsh environment.

The feasting and game-playing went on for three days. These two very different groups of people reached out to each other to give thanks for the good things in their lives.

Centuries later, we still celebrate Thanksgiving as a nation. And spiritual people give thanks daily to God – realizing saying “thank you” is probably life’s most important lesson.
