Nov. 24, 2009 — Michelangelo

Michelangelo is perhaps the greatest sculptor the world has ever known. His art form did not begin when he first picked up a hammer and a chisel. His art began in a dusty quarry.

Young Michelangelo had to learn how to look at rough marble and envision what could be created from it. Once he had selected what he thought was a suitable piece, he lived with the stone for a while.

After the marble was delivered to his studio, he would rise each dawn and examine it. He had learned from the great masters that the soft light of dawn was best for catching a glimpse of the rock’s uniqueness.

Only after spending time understanding the rock would he begin to shape it with chisel and hammer.

I'd say God is our Michelangelo.
