Nov. 23, 2009 — Charles Handy
Charles Handy is a former executive with Shell Oil who later became a professor in a business school and writer for business leaders.
He writes: “I spent the early part of my life trying to be someone else. The problem was that in trying to be someone else, I neglected to concentrate on the person I could be.
"I was happier going with the convention of the time, measuring success in terms of money and position, climbing ladders that others placed in my way… rather than giving expression to my own beliefs and personality. I was … hiding from myself.
Well, we often hide from ourselves. And getting to know God better always means getting to know ourselves better and not hiding.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
