Nov. 20, 2009 — Vaclav Havel
Perhaps you remember Vaclav Havel, who was a playwright, dissident and political prisoner when Czechoslovakia was under Soviet communist rule.
After the world changed with the fall of the Berlin Wall, Havel became the first president of the Czech Republic, and he made a memorable speech before a joint session of the United States Congress.
He said: “The salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human meekness and in human responsibility. Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better.
Well, Havel sounds a lot like Jesus, who taught that any change begins with the heart.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
