Nov. 11, 2009 — Tables

Throughout history, a table has been the center of many important occasions. Around a table, peace treaties have been signed, novels have been written and deals have been made.

Sometimes it’s a kitchen table that pulls us together with family and friends. It’s often where we find earnest discussion, laughter, love and prayer.

More than 2,000 years ago, Jesus and his disciples gathered around a table in Jerusalem. In eating bread and drinking wine together, the disciples were reminded of God’s message of hope. This hope still brings light into a sometimes dark world.

A table is but a piece of furniture, but it’s what goes on around the table that matters. May your table be a blessing.

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
