Nov. 9, 2009 — Wizard of Oz
In 1956, “The Wizard of Oz’’ appeared on television for the very first time. Star Judy Garland's 10-year-old daughter, Liza Minelli, introduced the program.
The movie was technologically groundbreaking in its use of color and special effects. But it remains beloved decades later because the story has some wonderful lessons to teach.
It tells us that all the brains, the heart and the courage we'll ever need we already have. Though I might add, we need God’s help in discovering and developing them.
And it tells us that home is wherever those who love us are, whether it's Kansas, the Emerald City, Greensboro, or alone in communion with God.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
