March 9, 2010 — Role models
When Lindsey Vonn, U.S. Olympic skier and gold medalist, was 9 years old, she met Olympic skier Picabo Street. Picabo became Lindsey's role model, the spark that ignited her passion for skiing and competition.
During the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, one speaker reminded competitors that, like it or not, all of them were role models for youngsters throughout the world.
His words were: "It only takes a spark to ignite a passion."
I like to think that in our own lives, what we say and do can spark a passion for faith, for love, for compassion in our children, our neighbors and our world.
For we are all role models to someone.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
