March 5, 2010 — Cheers
Next week, 12 basketball teams will be in Greensboro ready to begin the ACC Tournament. Their fans will be here, too, ready to make noise.
Usually the cheering and yelling is almost deafening. But if the game slows down, the fans sometimes get quiet.
That’s when a player or coach sometimes jumps up and looks to the fans, asking them to pump up the noise. It reminds us that the teams play with more passion when they hear the roar of the crowd.
Well, no matter who we are, it’s easier to accomplish what we are doing if we know someone is cheering for us, so one of the Biblical writers says, "We need a cloud of witnesses," those fellow spiritual travelers who cheer us on in our life journey.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
