Jan. 21, 2010 — Eyes on the goal

At the beginning of breeding season, bluebirds are territorial. They often attempt to defend their territory when they see their own reflection in windows and car mirrors. Since their perceived rival doesn’t go away, they continue to attack.

They can’t get on with the business of nesting because they are too busy trying to clear obstacles out of the way.

Henry Ford said that “obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”

Well, when it comes to faith, our goal is to let God’s love rule in our hearts. Yet, if we are always looking in the mirror – or seeing our own reflection – the obstacle is self-evident.

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
