Jan. 20, 2010 — Tuned in
Seems we Americans are easily bored, but Christian writer Fred Buechner believes that to be bored is to turn our back on what life is offering us at that moment.
He says that undoubtedly that some people nodded off during Napoleon’s coronation or Lincoln’s remarks at Gettysburg.
Perhaps we remember a time when we yawned our way through a lecture that turned out to be important. Or maybe we thought we knew how to ski, so we tuned out the instructor and then found ourself in trouble on the first run downhill.
Well, think of what the disciples would have missed if they had yawned their way through Jesus’ words, and think of what we miss if we tune ourselves out to the work of God in our lievs.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
