Feb. 19, 2010 — A symbol of caring
An elementary teacher had a diversity of students, and one of her objectives was to develop an appreciation among the students for their differing faiths.
So she asked her students to bring in an object as they shared with the class their particular religion.
The first student got up in front of the class and said, "My name is Benjamin, I am Jewish, and this is the Star of David."
The second student got up in front of the class and said, "My name is Mary. I'm Cathlolic, and this is a rosary."
The third student got up in front of the class and said, "My name is Tommy. I'm a Presbyterian, and this is a casserole dish."
Well, truth is many churches are known for their covered dish suppers and delivering casseroles to families in grief. It's a great symbol of community and caring.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
