Feb. 18, 2010 — A third party
One of America’s favorite spiritual explorers is back on the best-seller list. Liz Gilbert’s newest book is called Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage.
Gilbert continues the journey she began in Eat, Pray, Love, which chronicled a year spent recovering from divorce.
One of the reasons we struggle with marriage, she says, is because we approach as Greeks and as Hebrews. We want to be independent, yet we crave the structure of law and the security of a group.
Well, relationships are complicated within marriages and among friends and family. But the divorce rate among those who are a part of a faith community is three times less than the general population.
Perhaps it’s because there’s a third party involved.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
