Feb. 15, 2010 — Picturing the truth about God

Columnist George Will notes that in the 1930s – for perhaps the first time – photographs supplemented and sometimes replaced words as primary shapers of opinion.

Pictures are powerful. They shape our perspective. But now, with digital technology, they can be easily and subtly changed to present a false reality.

Jesus knew the power of pictures, and he drew pictures of God with his stories.

In one story, he drew the picture of a father waiting for his lost son who had squandered his life in a faraway land. And who can forget the picture of that father welcoming home his lost son?

Now that is a picture of the truth about God.

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
