Feb. 3, 2010 — Enough, for now

Lee and Laura are newlyweds. They met three years ago and found that they had many things in common:

  • Both are from North Carolina
  • Both are chronically homeless
  • Both have trouble keeping a job – Lee because of depression and Laura because of a physical disability.

At night, when they close their eyes and lay their heads to rest, they do so in run-down boarding houses and motels in dangerous neighborhoods. Each night, says Laura, they are grateful to have each other.

And in the morning, says Lee, “What wakes us up is our faith that God will give us the strength to see better days and sleep in safety through better nights.”

Which is to say that with faith and each other, we find our strength and our hope.
