Feb. 2, 2010 — Tee it up again
Forty-nine years ago, the top player in golf was a young guy from Wake Forest, Arnold Palmer. But in the first round of the Los Angeles Open, he made a number of blunders.
On the 18th hole, a par-5, he hit four balls out of bounds and ended with an embarrassing score of 12 strokes.
"I missed my putt for an 11," he calmly explained afterward.
Well, we all hit balls out of bounds, not just in sports but in every facet of life. And yes, those blunders are embarrassing.
Golf, like other sports, can be a great teacher for such things as our embarrassing mistakes. What God helps us do is to learn from our mistakes so that we can tee it up again.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
