Dec. 17, 2009 — Second chances
Twenty years of addiction had left Michael doubting God. He said, “I saw no use in believing in someone that didn’t fix the problems I faced.”
Still, he checked himself into a rehab facility. There he realized it was not God who was keeping him down; it was himself.
Michael has been off drugs for two years. He has an apartment and a car. Life isn’t perfect. He doesn’t make a lot of money. And when his paycheck doesn’t cover the bills, he finds a free dinner at our church.
But when he struggles these days, he says, “ I remember that God has blessed me with another chance at life.”
Well, it's often our own inner demons that keep us down – but God is a God of many second chances.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
