Dec. 7, 2009 — Pearl Harbor Day
Today, Dec. 7, is remembered in the United States as the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, forcing America into World War II.
On the other side of the world that day, the German Army, which had invaded the Soviet Union sixth months before, spotted the spires of Moscow.
But stiff Soviet resistance, overextended supply lines and a bitter cold winter prevented any further German advance. That front would see-saw in coming months, but in less than two years, Germany would be retreating for good.
Well, sometimes the darkest times are merely a prelude to victory. Just ask the disciples who buried Jesus on a grim Friday evening thinking they would never see him again.
Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
