just a thought

Dec. 4, 2009 — On call

Once I went with a team of doctors on a medical mission to Haiti. We flew in small planes over the mountains to a dirt landing strip and to a village where the only doctors were those who came in on medical missions.

I was there for moral and spiritual support, and to lead in daily devotions. But on the first day, the person who had been trained to assist our surgeon with the anesthesia fainted in the first surgery! Guess who they called in to be the assisting anesthesiologist?

After a short tutorial on how to give the shots and watch the monitors, I put on the scrubs and went to work. I was scared, fearful and doubtful. But I knew I was not alone.

Ever had that experience?

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
