Dec. 2, 2009 — Just pray it

I think there are similarities in putting and praying, although I agree with Billy Graham who said, “The only time my prayers are not answered is on the golf course!”

What putting is to golf, prayer is for a vital spiritual life. What is important about praying is simply doing it.

Like putting there are many methods. We can pray with our eyes open. We can write our prayers. We can pray in the shower. We can read prayers, or pary the Psalms. We can pray by ourselves or with others, at the table or at our desk.

The world of prayer is only limited by our creativity and discovery. Like discovering the right putting style, we heed the words about putting from a famous golf teacher: “Try them all and figure out what is best for you.”

Just a thought. I'm Sid Batts from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro, fpcgreensboro.org.
