Here is how the $103,000 raised during First Day & Night will be used to care for our campus:
Sanctuary: $43,711
· The main steps and steps to the Tower Room are being re-caulked to end water leaking into the ground floor of the building.
· The stained glass windows in the balconies are being re-caulked to end leaks.
· The sidewalk skylight to the ground floor is being repaired.
· The main entrance doors are being repaired.
Smith Building: $25,000
Bids are being gathered to replace a 10-ton HVAC unit. This unit provides air conditioning and heating for row of classrooms down the hall from the sanctuary, including our very busy Garrison Room.
More water issues: $30,000
Work will be done on the connector between the Corl Building and the Smith Building to eliminate water infiltration. This has been the source of water damage to the kitchen next to the Virginia Gilmer Room. We will then be able to repair that kitchen, which is used during events such as memorial services and church school classes. This connector still needs significant work and possible replacement. This water infiltration repair is a much-needed temporary fix.

More than 600 First Presers gathered on the Preyers' lawn for dinner and activities.
A tremendous thank you to each and every one of you who putted, partied, donated, volunteered, served food, bid on an item, wrote checks, cleaned up – participated joyfully! You are the ones that made this incredible event possible. You are the ones that made it a success!
April 23 was First Day & Night: Putt & Party for Preservation. And divinely, we were blessed with beautiful weather for both parts of the event!
One hundred golfers (25 foursomes) stepped out on the links for the First Day golf tournament. With the help of our 36 generous sponsors, fellowship, fun, and friendly competition made the day an awesome success. Just ask Sid, whose team won its flight!
It is hard to describe the evening party on the front lawn of the Preyer home. Thanks to the generosity of Tricia and Allan, the setting was absolutely breathtaking! Even more beautiful than the setting was the way our members came together in fellowship and in care for our beloved church.
We all enjoyed a Southern supper and were wowed by the gifts of our congregation in both silent and live auctions. A delightful jazz duo, a trivia game and drawings added to the excitement. A special highlight was the viewing of a video that reminded us of our history as well as our charge for the future. Starring our beloved Dr. Joe Mullin, the video exhorted us to take care of our historic gem of a church for all it has given and for all it has yet to give to our community and to our ministries.
And now, for the big First Day and Night news. Our gracious and generous congregation raised more than $103,000! And yes, this is a net figure. At this time the decision has not been made as to which facilities projects will benefit from these proceeds, but this figure will surely make desperately needed repairs possible for our church home.
So, we send a resounding THANK YOU that we would like to shout from the highest sanctuary rafters – from the bottom of our full hearts. We look forward to celebrating with you on May 23 at the Pentecost Picnic.
