Winter ShelterWinter Emergency Shelter Needs Your Help

Through March 31, 22 homeless men are part of our church family at the Paisley House at 707 N. Greene Street. During the men's stay, the shelter will need 300+ volunteers to offer hope and hospitality. Read their stories and find out how you can help here.

Sunday, February 5

Three worship services – Join us in First Worship, 8:45 a.m., sanctuary; Rejoice!, 10:30 a.m., Life Center; or for our 10:30 a.m. Sanctuary service.

 

The Green Team will have Dennis Quaintance speak about his philosophy of sustainable living and working, and what motivates him to live in a way that considers environmental issues in his decisions. Garrison Room (Smith 201).

 

In Family Matters, Grier Booker Richards will lead another discussion of the book Almost Christian by Kenda Creasy Dean. Spencer Love Room (Memorial 200).

 

Rev. Frank Dew will continue the discussion of his book Improving Our Acoustics for Hearing the Gospel, in the Cunningham Room (Smith 101).

 

Presbyterian Youth Connection – Senior high meets on third floor of Shetler for Souper Bowl of Caring, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.   Middle schoolers will be attending their Winter Retreat to Wintergreen, Virginia.

 

 

Monday, February 6

Growing in Faith Together (GIFT for women in their 20s/30s/40s) meets 9:15-10:30 a.m. in Smith 201. We will read and reflect upon Sid Batts' 4-part sermon series, "I'm Spiritual, Not Religious." Ron Bauer's watercolor class meets from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Cunningham Room, Smith 101. The only cost is your painting supplies. Call Dolly Jennings, 854-2663, to learn more.

 

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) meeting – noon to 1 p.m. in Shetler 106. This is a consumer support group for individuals dealing with mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia.

 

Westminster Ringers – A handbell choir for music readers with less bell experience, Westminster Ringers meets at 4:15 p.m. in Smith 300.

 

Functional Fitness – Exercise class for older women meets 6-7 p.m. in  Garden Room (Smith 106). Cost is $3 per class.

Wednesday, February 8

Bible studies: A 7 a.m. Bible study invites all men, Shetler 206. All women are invited to a 7:30 a.m. study in Currie Library.

 

Parent Coffee and Preschool Chapel – begins at 9 a.m. in Blair Hagan (Memorial 100), continues at 9:45 in Redhead Hall.

 

Community Service Group – 10 a.m. in Garden Room (Smith 106). All women are welcome to join us to craft useful, hand-made items to be donated to community relief agencies.

 

Child Protection Policy Training Required for all teachers and leaders of children and youth. Noon in Spencer Love (Memorial 200).

Beth Moore study continues – on the Book of James, in Shetler 214, 4-6:30 p.m. Workbooks are available at Lifeway. Call Gail Kinser, 282-3325, or Sally Marsh, 288-0278, for more information.

 

Children’s choirs – The following children’s choirs meet on Wednesdays:

  • Credo Choir (grades K-1), 5:15 p.m., Smith 312
  • Canticle Choir (grades 2-5), 6:00 p.m., Smith 312


Chancel Choir – Our Chancel Choir welcomes new singers to its 6:30 p.m. rehearsal, Smith 301.

Service for Wholeness – 6 - 6:30 p.m. in Myers Loyalty Room, led by Neil Dunnavant. The Service for Wholeness is a beautiful service with quiet meditation, gentle music, and time for prayer. Give yourself

Thursday lunch – Stop by the Life Center for lunch between noon and 1 p.m. Lunch is $8.
